3 Ways to Ride

Our Equestrian Program is open to all students, who can tailor the program to their level of interest.

Competitive Riding

Equestrian Team

Students at an advanced level of horseback riding can join our Equestrian Team and compete in horse shows. The team travels to participate in local, state, and national competition. We bill the involved fees and expenses through the student’s expense account.

Our Show Horses

Oak Hill maintains a quality string of show horses. We require students who engage in competitive riding to help care for and maintain the horses they show. 

Trail Riding

Oak Hill offers trail riding around Noonkester Park after school several days a week and on some weekends. For a nominal, once-a-year fee, students can participate in trail riding as often as they like.

Riding Lessons

For students who want to learn, we offer beginner through advanced saddle-seat and western riding lessons. Students may take riding lessons on campus for an extra fee with either an Oak Hill horse or a student’s privately owned horse.

We teach on-campus lessons after school and on some weekends. A typical lesson lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The number of lessons a student may take per week is pre-arranged with the parent, instructor, and student on an individual basis.

Riding for Credit

Horsemanship class is a full-year course that teaches the basics in horse care and stable management. We offer both Beginning and Advanced Horsemanship, and students may take these as P.E. credits.

The class includes: the principles of grooming, stable care, nutrition, equine conformation, and knowledge of the three basic seats of riding. Through both hands-on experience and in-class lectures, students gain a range of horsemanship skills.
